The Vamshadhara Weavers’ Producer Company (VWPC) was promoted in 2014. It is located in Devaravalasa village of Srikakulam District, Andhra Pradesh and has over 110 weaver members in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts. Its members, the Board and employees are all practicing small weavers who have come together to be a part of this collective. Together, with support from Chitrika Foundation staff, they manage their institution – from production, marketing, design implementation, institution building to raising finances. Apart from providing the best comparative wages and regular bonuses for weavers, VWPC has changed the way business is organized in handlooms. With quality systems at every level, formal contracts with vendors, transparent financial management and effective use of capital, Vamshadhara improved its reserves and performance over the years, with its sales touching Rs. 1.93 Crores (2017-18).
Currently, most of the products are ‘Semi-Khadi’ (Cotton warp, Amber Khadi weft) in Jamdani, Kuppadam and Ballakammi techniques along with Checks and Stripes. Saris, dupattas and fabrics are the main products.
