Product Details

What is Patnulu?
Natively grown desi cotton, cleaned and brushed with a fish jaw bone, seed separated on a wooden block using an iron rolling pin, fibers opened using the vibrations of a carding bow, straightened and drawn through the rollers of a hand-operated balni, and finally spun on the desi charkha. From fiber to yarn, using native Kondapatti cotton, spun by women, entirely with indigenous hand-operated tools, from the villages of Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh. This 100% desi, 100% hand-made yarn is called 'Patnulu' by the local craftspeople to distinguish it from 'Ambar Khadi' or yarn that is spun on the Ambar Charkha.
